Stillman Girls Win Regional Title In Overtime Thriller

It wasn’t pretty, but Stillman Valley defeated Big Northern rival Lutheran 76-74 to win the 3A Lutheran Regional championship.

Stillman’s Alexa Ballard had a game she probably will never forget. With five seconds left in regulation, and down by one point Ballard was fouled while attempting to shoot a three pointer. Ballard sunk the first free throw to tie the game, but missed the last two sending the game into overtime.

Then in overtime the Lady Indians loss the school’s all-time leading scorer Macy Weaver after picking up her fifth foul of the game.

But Ballard scored twice in the overtime period including a put-back that gave them the lead late, and eventually the win.

“I mean the free throws they were, I’m glad I just made one, says Ballard. “I was so shaky and somehow my team was there for me to support me even though I put them through overtime, but it was crazy.”
