It wasn’t just another Friday evening out for dinner with family for Stillman Valley head football coach, Mike Lalor. Several of the football players and dance squad members interrupted Lalor’s dinner at the Cardinal Cafe in downtown Stillman Valley with a flashmob dance, to the tune of Will.i.am.’s “Hall of Fame”. That’s because Lalor’s been elected into the Illinois Football Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame. The flashmob is how they broke the news to him. His wife, Heather and some friends at the high school arranged the surprise announcement. Coach Lalor has coached five state championship teams at Stillman Valley. He was certainly moved and surprised by it all.
“This, here tonight took me absolutely off-guard,” Lalor said. “I knew this was around the time; sometimes they announce it, but to have what they did here tonight… All the people that were part of organizing it, this is pretty awesome, pretty special.”
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held next spring.
