The Lovie Smith era is underway as the University of Illinois football team opened up camp on Thursday. There’s been quite the buzz around Champauigne since coach smith took over the illini.. and the players felt it as well on the field.
“I think were just a hungry team,” says guard Joe Spencer. “I think everybody came out. We played smart, but we played really fast today. I was impressed with that. Just the pace of practice, and I think everyone is excited.”
“I thought it was a good first day,” says quarterback West Lunt. “You know we worked really hard this summer and just kind of going through the motions in the summer. Then have the coached out here definitely more intensity, and it was a good first day. A lot of young guys got a lot of reps.”
The Illini open up their season against Murray State on Sept. 3 in Champaign, Il.
