ROCKFORD, IL — The stage is set for the final day of the Greater Rockford Men’s and Women’s Golf Classics on Sunday.
Robert Dofflemyer will take a three stroke lead in the men’s event into the Aldeen Golf Club and Carson Racich and Katelyn Sayyalinh will square off for the women’s title in match play.
Racich, a Harlem graduate and a golfer at Lamar University in Texas, defeated Rochelle High School junior Megan Thiravong 5 & 4 in one semifinal match Saturday at Sandy Hollow Golf Course.
Sayyalinh, a senior at Rockford Guilford, defeated recent Rockford Lutheran graduate Natalie Hooper 3 & 1 in the other semifinal match.
Neither Sayyalinh nor Racich has won the Greater Rockford Women’s Golf Classic previously. Their match Sunday at the Aldeen Golf Club will tee off at 7:30 a.m.
Dofflemyer shot a round of 70 in men’s stroke play at Sandy Hollow Saturday. He had two birdies and one bogey in his round. Through three rounds of the tournament he is four strokes under par.
Matt LaMarca is in second place at one stroke under par. LaMarca shot his third straight round of 71.
Jeff Holmgaard made a big leap moving up five places into third place. He shot a 70. He is one stroke over par. Ten-time Rockford Classic champion Jamie Hogan shot a 73. He is tied with Aldeen Cup champion Kyle Slechta for fourth place at two over par.
Sunday the top two golfers, Dofflemyer and LaMarca will tee off at 11:50 a.m. at the Aldeen Golf Club. Holmgaard, Hogan and Slechta will tee off at 11:40 a.m.
