For the fourth time in seven years Alabama is the national champion of college football. The Tide won a historic shootout 45-40 over Clemson Monday night.

The 85 points is the most points scored in a national championship game.

Two special teams plays were the difference in this game. With the scored tied 24-24 Alabama successfully pulled off an onside kick with 10:34 to go in the fourth quarter. Two players later Bama struck on a 51 yard touchdown catch by tight end O.J. Howard.

Later in the fourth quarter Kenyan Drake returned a kickoff 95 yards for another touchdown to put Alabama up 38-27.

Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson had a remarkable game in defeat. He completed 30 of 47 passes for 405 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 73 yards.

Clemson had a 17 game winning streak snapped.
