Boylan has felt overlooked throughout the state in spite of it’s outstanding record, but the Titans should have some respect now after what they did Monday.
The Titans beat Illinois’ third ranked 3A team Peoria Manual 76-64. The Titans fell behind 8-3 early, but they turned it on from there turning in their most complete game of the season.
They crashed the boards. They challenged shots on defense, and they got 30 points on some deadly outside shooting by Zach Couper who finished with 30 points. Couper made four three-pointers.
Luke McDermott added 14 points for the Titans and Anthony Foreman had 13.
Manual star Da’Monte Williams ran into foul trouble and he finished with only eight points.
“I think it’s a signature win for our program,” said Boylan coach Mike Winters. “I think it kind of validates who we think we are. It builds a lot of confidence in our guys not only for today, but for the future.”
“We knew coming in they were one of the top-ranked (teams), and we knew if we got a win over a top-ranked (team) it shows we’re one of the better teams in the state,” says Couper.
“We live for these moments,” said Foreman. “Hopefully we can ride of this and keep going and going until we’re all the way down there in Peoria.”
