Two of Rockford’s own karate kids returned from the 2018 AAU Jr. Olympics with medals around their necks.
The Jr. Olympics took place in Des Moines, Iowa and that’s where 9-year-old Ben Croisant and 18-year old Nedal Ahlammwi grabbed medals.
Croisant, a green belt, won bronze medal in kata.
“That experience was crazy and cool,” says Croisant. “I always said it would be cool to be in the Olympics, and I guess I kind of got a chance to do it.”
Ahlammwi, a black belt, also won bronze in kata, and won the gold medal in kumite.
“I’m so excited to get this, and I hope in the future to get more,” says Ahlammwi. “Especially gold ones.”
Both boys represented the TKO of Rockford ran by Jamie Potter.
“I was so proud of them. They work so hard,” says Potter. “They come in the afternoon on extra time. They’re here every single day working very very hard.”
TKO of Rockford is a non-for-profit karate academy. They are always looking for more kids, and donations to support their efforts in the community.
