Fred Van Vleet knows basketball. It’s been a big part of his life all his life. Now he’s learning about life as a basketball player.
Competing professionally is an adjustment for any player. Van Vleet says it’s the off-the-court things that he and all rookies have to get a handle on.
“Just having to manage your own self as your business and knowing that we get quite a bit of free time. Obviously we’re traveling and what-not a lot of time, but we’re not spending that much time on the court and in practice and stuff like that. So just managing your body, resting, eating properly. Staying away from distractions. Things like that.”
Van Vleet is more than halfway through his rookie season with the Toronto Raptors. They beat the Hornets Wednesday night and now they head into the NBA ALL-Star break. Van Vleet will return home to Rockford this weekend to make a couple public appearances.
