VanVleet throws assist to local kids with backpacks, school supplies

While Fred VanVleet spent some time in the summer helping local kids sharpen their basketball skills, Saturday he helped those same kids prepare to take on the classroom.

Rockford kids got their hands on some stuff they’ll definitely need for the upcoming school year. VanVleet teamed up with Rockford Local Bank & Trust and Anderson Auto Group to hold a ‘Back 2 School Giveaway’ at The FVV Shop in downtown Rockford.

The kids received some very cool VanVleet backpacks with school supplies inside of them.

“It’s another thing I wanted to do in the community,” says VanVleet. “Kids going back to school, getting them excited with a nice looking backpack. Give them a head start, maybe save the family a couple of dollars giving them a backpack with some school supplies on the inside, and get them ready for the school year.”

“Coming up in the RPS you really didn’t have too many people that did this before so it’s just great,” says Keffer Simpson who helps manage VanVleet’s store on East State Street. “You know it’s a good feeling that way you can actually do something in your own community.”

This comes at a perfect time as Rockford schools begin on Monday, August 20.
