The Rockford University athletic department has announced that Andrew Weber has resigned his position as head men’s basketball coach effective immediately. Weber spent the last eleven years at Rockford University, two as a player and nine as a member of the RU men’s basketball staff, including the last four and half years as the program’s head coach.

“I appreciate the support that our student-athletes have received over the last 11 years,” Coach Weber stated. “The relationships are what matter most, and we were fortunate to have great families be a part of our program.”

Coach Weber did an excellent job building the RU men’s basketball program into a perennial postseason contender. Rockford posted double-digit wins in three of his four full seasons as the head coach, and his teams either qualified for or were within a single game of earning a berth in the NACC Tournament each of the last four years.

This past season, Rockford went 11-9 in conference play to finish fifth and earn a berth in the NACC Tournament. Both Rockford’s NACC win total and conference finish were the best for the Regents since the 2008-09 season. Under Weber’s guidance, Rockford had nine All-NACC selections, two NACC Defensive Player of the Year honorees, one CoSIDA Academic All-Region performer and one CoSIDA Academic All-American.

“I would like to thank Coach Weber for his many years of hard work and dedication both as a player and coach here at Rockford University,” Director of Athletics Jason Mulligan stated. “He has bled purple for a long time, and we appreciate all of his efforts and wish him the best in his future endeavors. Our men’s basketball program is in the best place that it has been in years, and our new head coach will be coming into a great situation.”

A national search to hire a head men’s basketball coach will begin immediately.
