Winnebago Claims East Summer League Crown

Sports

Winnebago finished up East Summer League play on top Tuesday by defeating Auburn 60-55 in the championship game.

The Indians showed they’ll be a team to contend with next winter with four returning starters and some more talented young players ready to make a contribution.

Ty  Waller is one of those returning starters. “It (winning the championship) shows us that we’ve got some things to look forward to in the season,” says  Waller. “We’ve still got some things we’ve got to finish but to do this in the summer this feels good because it gives us a little push on the season.”

So does this championsip cement in the Indians’ minds that good things are ahead this winter for Winnebago?

“Yea I think so,” says center Andrew Morrissey. “Returning four starters also helps out a lot this year and we’re looking to do something great this year.”

East took third place in the summer league by defeating Hononegah in the consolation game.
