Brian Zimmerman outlined his views as Hononegah’s head football coach Thursday.
Last fall he split the head coaching duties on an interim basis with Chad Smith after previous head coach Tim Sughroue was placed on administrative leave. Tuesday Zimmerman was named the sole head coach.
Zimmerman says there will be changes in the way Hononegah plays next season, but nothing major. He says Hononegah will remain primarily a running team, but they also want to have some versatility on that side of the ball.
Defense has always been Hononegah’s strength. Zimmerman is inclined not to fix wants not broken, so don’t look for any significant differences there.
Zimmerman also says Smith will return to assist him in the role of defensive coordinator.
Zimmerman says the late Steve Stromquist, a former Hononegah head coach, was his mentor. Zimmerman wants to model some of the same characteristics that Stomquist modeled.
“I want to be a role model to our players. I want to be a role model overall in our program. I want to be respected. But at the same time I want to be approachable,” says Zimmerman.
