CHAMPAIGN, IL (WTVO) –The Fighting Illini continue to work hard in Champaign getting ready for the upcoming season. Rockford Auburn graduate Vederian Lowe is among them.
Lowe will be a fixture at starting left offensive tackle again. He started all 12 games there last season. If there is a strength on the Fighting Illini team it might be that line.
Lowe is one of three linemen who have started since their freshman year. They’re all juniors now. Plus the Illini have added senior guard Richie Pettibon. He transfered in from Alabama.
“We know we all have to take that next step,” says Lowe. “We had a good year rushing last year, but it’s time to make it even better. We feel really confident. It’s just another year that we just stacked up. We’ve played a lot of games. Just the experience is going to help us a lot.”
This has been a memorable summer for Lowe. In early June his first child was born…a little boy named Kingston. Lowe very much enjoys being a father.
“It’s the greatest feeling in the world you know. It really helps a person mature such as myself. It’s something that I think I needed. Even though it was very unexpected I’m enjoy every second of it.”
