Passenger of car crash airlifted to hospital, alcohol likely involved police say

BELOIT, Wis. (WTVO) — On Saturday, July 27th at approximately 11:20 p.m. Beloit Police Department responded to a single vehicle traffic crash.

Several EMS units responded as well as the REACT medical helicopter.

20-year-old Kevin Lugo was driving a 2005 Chrysler when he struck trees and a pole at Saint Lawrence and South Paddock Road. He was transported to an area hospital with multiple injuries, but is currently stable police said.

The passengers were 19-year-old Hector R. Lara and 18-year-old Kimberly Martinez, officials reported.

According to the officers Lara was flown to an area trauma center and was in surgery for non-life-threatening injuries. Martinez was also transported to an area hospital, and also was in surgery for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the police, crews were on the scene until 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

The investigation is ongoing, but it is believed that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in this accident officials said.
